Convert between orders and quotes

A quote is a pre-order pricing document. On the sales-orders list you can turn a draft order into a quote, and turn an accepted quote back into an order — the two stay linked so you always know which quote an order came from. This guide covers both directions and the guardrails around each.

Before you begin

• Convert actions live on the Sales Orders list (Orders → Sales Orders) and on individual order pages.
• To convert an order to a quote, the order must be a draft. Quotes are managed in the Quotes area, and converting a quote to an order requires the quote-to-order permission.
• The examples use customer Blue Bottle Retail, orders such as SO-DOCS-0001, warehouse Main Warehouse, and store Main Store.

Convert an order to a quote

1. On the Sales Orders list, open the row menu for the draft order you want to convert.
2. Choose the convert-to-quote action to open the quote options dialog.
3. Set the quote's options — such as how many days until it expires and whether to reserve inventory for it — and confirm.

The order becomes a quote and appears on the same list with a quote status chip. Filter the list to quotes at any time using the Quote filter.

Convert a quote to an order

From an accepted quote in the Quotes area, use its create-order action. SKU.io copies the quote's lines and pricing into a new draft sales order and records the quote and the exact quote version it came from on the order.

The order and quote can drift apart on purpose

An order remembers the specific version of the quote it was created from. Revising the quote afterward creates a new version and leaves the order untouched; likewise, editing the order's lines or pricing after conversion doesn't change the quote. The link is there for provenance — to trace an order back to what was quoted — not to keep the two documents in lockstep.
