Assemble a kit

An assembly builds a kit product from its component products in a single, immediate step — components go down, assembled kits go up, and the kit's cost is rolled up from the components consumed. It's the lightweight option: no work orders, operations, or statuses like a manufacturing order — just one inventory transaction you can also run in reverse to disassemble.

Before you begin

• A kit product (a product with a components list) exists, and its components have stock in the warehouse you're assembling in.
• The warehouse has a default location (required for the movement).

Assemble

1. Go to Inventory → Assemblies and click Create Assembly.
2. Step 1 — pick the Warehouse and Assembly Date.
3. Step 2 — search for and select the kit product. The sidebar shows Existing Kits Inventory and Potential Kits (how many you can build from the components on hand).
4. Step 3 — leave the action on Assemble, set the Quantity, and review the Component Impact table (each component's −quantity and what's available).
5. Click Create Assembly.

The components are consumed from their FIFO layers and a new FIFO layer is created for the assembled kits at the rolled-up component cost. The assembly's detail page shows the exact Inventory Impact — the created kit layer and the component movements.

Disassemble

To break kits back into components, switch the action to Disassemble in Step 3. This consumes a kit layer and re-creates the component inventory, splitting the kit's cost back across the components.
