Create & edit a warehouse
Warehouses are where your stock lives — including virtual warehouses that represent a 3PL or Amazon FBA (see Set your foundation). Each warehouse carries the routing and dispatch behavior that decides how orders flow through it.
Supplier ship-from locations are separate — those live on the supplier record, as the Add Warehouse dialog itself reminds you.
Create a warehouse
- Go to Contacts → Warehouses.
- Click Add Warehouse.
- Enter the Name (required) and pick the Type — Direct (a warehouse you operate) or 3PL.
- Fill the address — Search Address autocompletes it, or enter the lines by hand.
- Click Save.
The warehouse dashboard
Opening a warehouse lands on its Dashboard: tiles for Inventory Value, Units Available, Today's Shipments, and Pending Inbound, a Warehouse Details card (address, contact, shipping provider, default destination), and Inventory Activity with shipment counts by period. The header shows the type, status, and whether auto-routing is on, plus Edit Details.
Edit details and behavior
Click Edit Details (or the Details card's Edit) to open the settings:
- Basic Information — name, Type, Shipping Provider, Nominal Code Override (override the default inventory nominal-code mapping), and Default Destination Warehouse for transfers out of this warehouse.
- Warehouse Settings — the automation toggles:
- Allow Automatic Routing — automatically reserve inventory when orders come in for items in stock.
- Auto Dispatch Enabled — automatically dispatch orders when inventory is available.
- Partial Dispatch Enabled — allow partial shipments when full inventory isn't available.
- Warehouse Locations — subdivide the warehouse into bins; see Manage warehouse locations.
- Contact Information and Address.
Click Save Changes. Warehouse names must be unique — the save is rejected if another warehouse (including a supplier's ship-from warehouse) already uses the name.
Next steps
- Manage warehouse locations — bins, zones, and barcodes.
- Set initial inventory — load opening stock.
- Warehouse routing and the warehouse lock — how routing decides which warehouse fulfills an order.
