How customer tags sync from Shopify
Your Shopify customers already carry tags — loyalty tiers, VIP flags, wholesale labels, product interests. SKU brings those tags in for you, so you don't have to re-tag anyone by hand.
When tags sync
Whenever an order syncs from Shopify, SKU reads the tags on that order's customer and attaches them to the matching SKU customer. There's nothing to turn on: it happens as part of the normal order sync. Existing Shopify customers were backfilled, so their tags are already in place.
What gets filtered out
Shopify stores also accumulate app and system tags that add noise rather than describe the customer. SKU skips these automatically so you keep only the tags that mean something:
- Shop Login and Shopify Forms tags
- Klaviyo segment tags (for example
klaviyo_*) - Inveterate membership tags (for example
inveterate*)
The meaningful merchant tags — VIP, Wholesale, loyalty tiers, product interests — come through as normal.
Your own tags are safe
A sync only adds tags; it never removes them. Any tag you add by hand on a customer's detail page stays put, even if the customer syncs again later.
Why it matters
Once your customers are tagged, you can segment your reporting by those tags — especially in the Profitability report, where each tag becomes a customer segment you can compare on revenue, cost, and margin.
